This is our Call To Action.
Our country’s fallen servicemen need us.
They need our help to assure that their widows and children will be provided quality education.
They need us on this coming Monday, Patriot Golf Day.
Allow me please, to introduce you to Maj. Dan Rooney, USAF retired.
Allow me please, to tell you about him and his wonderful creation — Folds Of Honor.
Dan Rooney has stood with presidents, senators, congressmen, admirals, generals and the famous from all around the sports world — especially golf.
Dan was at the home of Jack and Barbara Nicklaus this week, Jack was there to lend his name and his support to The Mission.
“What you’ve done is unbelievable. I’m proud to be part of it,” Nicklaus said to the former Air Force pilot, a veteran of three combat tours in Iraq, flying dangerous missions in his F-16 Fighting Eagle.
Rooney is a special man in many ways — combat pilot, patriot, PGA Golf Professional. Yes, all of those. But his most important title is Founder and CEO of Folds Of Honor.
Rooney found his post-military calling when he saw the flag-draped casket of a fallen serviceman taken off a commercial flight he was on.
His vision began to take shape in his garage office back in 2007 and since then, this incredible mission has raised more than $70 million and provided 8,000 scholarships for the wives and children of our service men and women, killed or disabled in action.
Folds Of Honor takes front and center this coming Monday, Labor Day. Patriot Golf Day is our country’s largest, single-day golf fundraiser.
Thousands will participate in one way or another and we’d like for you to answer the call.
This mission has turned into a nationwide movement. The charity itself is one of the country’s most giving — 86 percent of the money raised goes to the scholarships. When you look at what most charities pay their staff and executives, Folds Of Honor is incredibly frugal. The heads of many 501-c-3s make more than the entire payroll of Folds Of Honor.
If you ever have the chance to meet Maj. Rooney, you’ll understand.
He’s a different cat, but most military combat pilots are just that and more.
The best of the best.
And his civilian life mission is so very special, so very important.
It is our duty, our privilege, our honor, to reach out as Americans and help the families of our fallen and disabled veterans.
There is no more noble cause.
Folds Of Honor refers to the American flag, folded in a tight triangle and presented to the survivors of the fallen.
I have received two of them. It is a chilling, surreal moment in one’s life:
“On behalf of a grateful nation…..”
Those of you who have had one placed in your hands will know what we’re talking about.
So yes, it is our chance to indeed act as a “Grateful Nation” and honor those who have fought and died to protect our freedoms. Along with those who were wounded and maimed.
This is your call, our call, our nation’s call.
Join the mission, help the movement.
Be a Patriot on Patriot Golf Day.
It’s the right thing to do.
