Early in the day, it looked like the British were taking over Boston.
Tyrrell Hatton shot 63 to post 10-under at TPC Boston then Justin Rose added a 65 to share the early lead at the Dell Championship.
Late in the day, Simpson’s eagle try from 71 feet left of the green at 18 found the bottom of the hole. He shot 63 and tied Hatton for the day’s low round.
After Rose and Hatton at 10-under, came Tommy Fleetwood at eight-under thanks to a 65.
Tiger Woods shot 66, got to four-under and put himself in position to make a move at the leaders on Sunday.
The 36-hole cut came at two-over par. Biggest name to miss was Jason Day. Rounds of 76-73, seven-over total, left Day heading out of town early.
