Bryson DeChambeau won’t hold back when he tells you that Tiger Woods is his golfing idol.
So naturally he was totally jazzed about being paired with Woods on moving day at the Dell on Sunday.
“It’s Tiger Woods — it was fun,” DeChambeau said after he went out and turned in a mind-boggling eight-under par 63 that clipped his idol by a full five shots.
DeChambeau capped off the day’s best round with an incredible second shot into the par five 18th that stopped just three feet away for eagle. He sank that putt to shoot 31 on the back nine with a bogey.
It got him within a shot of 54-hole leader Abraham Ancer and set DeChambeau into the final pairing with a chance to make it two-straight wins to start the FedEx Cup playoffs.
It also continued to show why DeChambeau will be a no-brainer pick for the 2018 Ryder Cup team.
A win on Monday by DeChambeau will put him in solid position to take the FedEx Cup at East Lake.
It will take another good effort by DeChambeau to win. He has a swarm of quality players right behind him.
Tyrrell Hatton, who earned one of the first four automatic spots on the European Ryder Cup team, is tied with DeChambeau at 12-under despite losing a ball at the 12th hole and ending up with double-bogey coming home.
Justin Rose (70), Emiliano Grillo (64) and Kyle Stanley (66) are all in at 11-under.
Rory McIlroy’s 66 got him to nine-under. Tony Finau’s 67 kept him front and center for a Ryder Cup captain’s pick, he’s a nine with Rory, Jordan Spieth (68) and Beau Hossler (68).
Tiger Woods’ 68 left him tied for 16th at seven-under while Phil Mickelson’s 67 got him to two-under, tied for 50th.

Bryson is playing his ass off but tiger gets the headlines this sucks
Tom Edrington
Hmmmm, when I look at the headline, I see Bryson first (look at the first word please) and his credit with 63 and the terms “simply dazzling” to describe his effort, the only reason Tiger is mentioned is because DeChambeau threw that up in front of him, guys used to meltdown when they played with Tiger, so I beg to differ, this Headline is a whole lot DeChambeau and just a little bit of Tiger.
