Hindsight is 20-20 but when you look at the way Brandt Snedeker finished the 2018 season and the way he’s started the new season out in Napa, maybe he’s the guy who should have been on the Ryder Cup team rather than scattergun Phil Mickelson.
Snedeker’s 65 on Friday at the Silverado Resort got him to 13-under par and he’s three shots clear of Mickelson and two others at the Safeway.
Mickelson’s 69 took him to double-digits under par. Ryan Moore (67-67) and Michael Thompson (69-65) are at 10-under with Mickelson.
“I’m seeing the lines well,” Snedeker said of his afternoon on the poa annua greens. “Poa is tougher to putt but I enjoy the challenge.”
Freddie Couples is in the field, playing in his final regular PGA Tour event. He’ll continue to play at the Masters but has made this his last appearance on the regular tour. After a tough 73 on Friday, Couples bounced back with 65 on Friday and is in contention at six-under par.
The cut came at three-under par and 84 players made it to the weekend.
