Good news is that American women dominated the Kia Classic out in Carlsbad.
Bad news is none of them won.
Cristie Kerr will look back on this one and know that Saturday probably cost her another LPGA victory.
Kerr, after opening 67-64, fell apart with 75 on Saturday and that opened the door for Eun-Hee Ji, who cut Cristie by eight shots that day 67-75.
Ji went on to win with a closing 67 — 16-under par. Kerr’s Sunday 68 got her within two but that was it.
Kerr went on to tie for second with fellow American Lizette Salas while Jane Park and Chris Tamulis finished T4 with I.K. Kim.
Ji was simply sensational as she hit 13 of 14 fairways and all 18 greens. “I hit it pretty well,” she said, in what was somewhat of an understatement. “I drove the ball very well and putted great.”
What really made the difference for Ji was a hole-in-one at the 14th.
Michelle Wie finished T22 at eight-under while Lexi Thompson’s return was less than mediocre. She shot two-under and tied for 58th.
The first women’s major of the season will be played this week — the ANA Inspiration at Rancho Mirage, the descendant of what used to be the old Dinah Shore.
