Brittany Lincicome led an American rush Thursday as the LPGA opened its 2017 season in the Bahamas.
Lincicome shot a tournament record nine-under par 64 that bolted her to the top of the leader board at the Pure Silk Classic.
Lincicome’s game was pure silk as she was virtually flawless.
“I was making everything,” said the player they call “Bam-Bam.” On top of that, everything else was working for the player who is not known for her practice habits. “I was driving it well, hitting it well, putting, making everything. Thirty footers, 10 footers, five footers. It was a pretty easy day.”
It was also a good day for another prominent U.S. star — Stacy Lewis. Lewis got off to a good start and found herself tied for second after shooting 66. Gerina Piller was in at six-under while Lexi Thompson opened with 69.
Lincicome’s 64 was a whopping 11 shots better than 2016 Player Of The Year Ariya Jutanugarn, who struggled and shot 75.
Missing from the season opener was Lydia Ko, the world’s No. 1 player.
