It was only 18 months ago that Robert Allenby was involved in a bizarre incident in Hawaii, claiming he was beaten and kidnapped.
That was at the Sony Open.
Since then Allenby’s game has been in a downward spiral. He’s missed the cut 19 times in his last 21 events and has only made $25,000 this year on the PGA Tour.
Things took an ugly turn for Allenby in the wee hours of the morning last Saturday after missing the 36-hole cut at the John Deere Classic.
Around 2:30 a.m., according to local reports, Allenby was arrested at Jumer’s Casino in Rock Island, Ill., not far from the TPC Deere Run in Silvis. He was charged with criminal trespassing and disorderly conduct by the Rock Island County police. The local gendarmes hauled the unruly Aussie off to the pokey where he spent less than a hour after his bond was set at $1,500.
Allenby’s agent offered no comment. Naturally. What was he going to say: “Hey, Robert got drunk and rowdy”?
Apparently Allenby was misbehaving to some degree.
Don’t be surprised if he gets a call from the commissioner’s office.
