It took him a while to admit it, but as expected, Tiger Woods will not play in the 2016 Masters.
His rehab work on his surgically-repaired back continues but as he has in the past, Woods has emphasized that there is no timeline for his return.
“After assessing the present condition of my back and consulting with my medical team, I’ve decided it’s prudent to miss this year’s Masters,” Woods said in a prepared statement on his website.
Woods has told everyone he is actually hitting balls and working on his short game at his home in Jupiter, Fl., but from the videos he has posted online, his swing looks unready for competition.
Those closest to Woods, including former Stanford teammate Notah Begay, have urged him to take his time before he makes any decisions on returning to competition.
Woods will be on hand Tuesday evening at Augusta National to attend the Champions Dinner, hosted by defending champion Jordan Spieth.
