Ben Hogan was simply one of the greatest players ever in the game of golf.
Icon? Mr. Hogan was that and more.
Everyone searched forever to find Hogan’s “secret.” Wasn’t any “secret” to it, Hogan once said the secret “was in the dirt” meaning he spent countless hours hitting balls to find what could work for him in his quest for perfection.
Today we’re going to present perhaps the best lesson you’ll ever receive in less than two minutes. This video lesson from Ben Hogan is less than two minutes but it’s straight from the horse’s mouth and this is no ordinary “horse” but rather a pure thoroughbred.
You’ll love Hogan’s politeness.
He’ll start things out with the phrase:
“If you don’t mind, I’ll describe……” Mind? Are you kidding us, Ben? Please, please, please!
Hogan will talk about what he regards as “The most important thing, to me, in the golf swing.”
When Hogan says it’s “The most important thing” in the golf swing, then we sure better up and pay attention.
Mr. Hogan will speak of and demonstrate the proper sequence of the lower body in the swing. Hogan was small in stature so naturally, he drove hard with his lower body. You’ll also see the incredible “lag” in his swing and that’s where the power and distance come from.
Pay special attention to the segment where he actually releases the club and listen to that “woosh” it makes through the hitting area. You’ll know you’re on the right track once you can begin to make that sound with your club at the bottom of the swing. Not as easy as you might think.
The main takeaway from this session with Ben Hogan is proper sequence to start the downswing — the lower body HAS to move first, not the shoulders. Hey, this is Ben Hogan, when he talks, it’s good to listen.

This is perfect as my daughters and I have been reading and focusing on one chapter of Hogan’s 5 fundamentals per week; in week 4 now.
Btw Tom the link sends readers to a bunch of Hogan lesson links, which is cool. But It’s hard find the specific lesson about downswing sequence.

Sorry about that, it came right up when I tested the link…
