Ai Miyazato has been missing in action from the top of LPGA leader boards for a long time.
Her last win came in 2012.
Yet there she was, going out and shooting 67 Thursday to share the lead at the LPGA’s first major of the season.
Miyazato’s 67 at Rancho Mirage tied her with Azahara Munoz.
Most eyes were focused on the player who is three shots back. Lydia Ko didn’t have her best stuff but still had her lowest opening round at this major — a two-under par 70.
American Lexi Thompson put herself right in the hunt with a three-under par 69 along with fellow USA players Gerina Piller and Ryan O’Toole.
