What do they call the last guy in his medical school class?
Doctor.
What do you call the 70th guy on the FedEx Cup points list?
You call him a competitor in this week’s BMW Championship at famed Crooked Stick outside Indy.
You call him Marc Leishman and he’s damn glad to be there, thank you.
Time for a quick look back at the Winners and Losers from last week’s Deutsche Bank Championship.
Of course Rory McIlroy was the biggest winner. Sixteen month winless streak gone, now on to the rest.
Other Winners:
Billy Hurley III: Go Navy! Hurley shot 70 on Monday, tied for eighth and jumped from 77 to 51. Has an outside shot at making it to Atlanta.
Dave Hearn: Oh Canada! Hearn shot 70 and tied for eighth and hopped all the way from N0. 92 to 59.
Hudson Swafford: A Monday 68 and a tie for 15th got him from 82 to No. 61 and on to the BMW!
Chris Kirk: You wouldn’t think much of a tie for 33rd but it got him from 75 to 66.
Jon Curran: A closing 70 and a tie for lowly 69th was good enough to keep him from falling out of the top 70. Went from 60 to 69.
The Losers:
Tough to call them losers. Making it in the top 100 on the PGA Tour is damn good nowdays but some of these lads shot their chances to move on to the BMW.
Jim Furyk: A tie for 57th dropped Furyk from 84th to 86th, not good enough to move on. David Duval called him “a lock” for a Ryder Cup spot, we have to beg to differ with DD on that.
Johnson Wagner: He was 69th coming in to Boston. A tie for 63rd sent him home in 78th.
Harold Varner III: It’s been a nice rookie year for the young man from East Carolina University. Kept his card, made way north of $1 million, but three back nine bogeys on Monday cost him a spot in the top 70. Shot 74 and only moved up to 75th. Darn back nine bogeys!
Rickie Fowler: A tie for 46th is not helping him make a case for a spot on the Ryder Cup team.
J.B. Holmes: Needs a strong showing at Crooked Stick. A tie for 33rd in Boston didn’t impress anyone.
That’s a take for this week.
On to the BMW!
