It was unprecedented two weeks ago when Ryder Cup Captain Davis Love III announced Rickie Fowler, J.B. Holmes and Matt Kuchar as three of the four captain’s picks for the upcoming Ryder Cup matches at Hazeltine National.
He flat-out left Bubba Watson off the list even though Bubba is ranked higher than any of those three, had more Ryder Cup points than any of those three and has two majors more than those three combined.
Shocking?
Yeah, probably so.
Yet Love was dropping hints, using words like “chemistry” and “easy to pair” when he named those guys and didn’t name Bubba, who we all know can be a bit of a jerk at times.
Love even hinted that Bubba may not be a good teammate either.
Not so fast says Brandt Snedeker, one of the “Automatic Eight” qualifiers, who Love says he’s given authority to choose who is and who isn’t on the team.
Snedeker came out this week and called the disparaging hints about Bubba a “false narrative” and he wanted to set the record straight.
So let’s hear what Sneds had to say:
“I don’t know where everybody gets this idea that Bubba Watson is a bad teammate. He is probably one of the best teammates you could possibly have. I want that out there for everybody to hear. Bubba Watson is a great teammate.”
Now if that’s the truth and nothing but the truth and Snedeker has the ear of his teammates and Love, then Sunday night’s pick should be no surprise at all.
It should be Bubba Watson, if you are buying what Sneds is selling.
Our only question remains:
Is Davis Love and his band of henchmen, er, Vice Captains, buying what Sneds is selling?
Stay tuned, this oughta be real good.

Great article Tom!
I understand where Snedeker is coming from. Snedeker is a good dude and he does like Watson a lot. Probably one of the few, lol…..
The way Captain Love have handled the whole affair has left a lot of mouths with sour taste. After doing a lot of soul searching, I would have taken Watson over Fowler despite Watson’s ocassional temper tantrums.
Let me be clear, I don’t think Fowler belongs, period.
On a side note, the Ryder Cuppers are not playing cuppity at East Lake except Dustin Johnson. Phil is a major skunk so far and the others are limping around in the first round. I hope this is not a sign for next week, ouch…….

Check the next feature coming out tomorrow and we’ll hit on those guys who were stinking it up on Thursday. As for Rickie, he was on the task force….sheeesh!
