Over your sizzling plate of Memphis smoked baby back ribs, these second round FedEx St. Jude additives:
Brooks Koepka is joining Jordan Spieth as one of the young, rising stars on the PGA Tour and his star is a little brighter after 36-holes in Memphis. Koepka added a 67 to his opening 64 and is the leader over a bunch of players who are simply not as talented as he is.
Austin Cook is a shot back and raise your hand if you can recognize him if he showed up in your hometown. He got in this event last year as a Monday qualifier and finished tied for 13th. That showing earned him a sponsor’s exemption this week and he’s making the most of it, for sure.
Steve Alker is two back with another seven players in at six under after two trips around the fairly difficult TPC Southwind.
If you’re wondering where Phil Mickelson stands, he starts the third round six back. He added a 69 on Friday and is probably already looking ahead to Chambers Bay and next week’s U.S. Open.
The TPC Southwind hasn’t been kind to this field. The 36-hole cut came at one-over par, 141.
