Bryson DeChambeau has taken his quest for more distance to the obsession level.
DeChambeau spent the offseason last year trying to bulk-up to the tune of 230-pounds. He was on his way to 240 and now says he might consider getting his body weight to a whopping 270 pounds.
DeChambeau is 6-1. Consider that new Tampa Bay Buccaneer tight end Rob Kronkowski, a total beast of a player, checks in just shy of 270 and he stands a towering 6-foot-6.
With his clubhead speed increasing and his ball speed passing the 200 mile-per-hour mark, DeChambeau isn’t satisfied. The guy they call “The Mad Scientist” wants more. He said he’s considering using a 48-inch driver, the longest shaft allowed by USGA rules.
“I’d definitely use a 48-inch driver if I could control it,” DeChambeau said. “I’d generate so much more speed, but it would need to be light enough, though. We’re going to mess with that. Trust me, if the USGA allows me to go to 48 inches with the driver — and I hit it just as straight as my 45.5-inch driver — why not? Why not?”
DeChambeau has taken some ideas past the rules. He wanted to putt side-saddle but that’s not within the rules and he wanted to use a compass on the golf course — sorry, that’s not kosher either.
Bryson recently recorded ball speeds of 203 miles-per-hour and has hit 239 pounds when he stepped on the scales.
Seems, 239 might not be enough for The Mad Scientist. He said earlier this week that 270 is possible.
At 270 pounds he would out-weigh NFL linebackers and be as big as a lot of college football linemen.
So is DeChambeau’s obsession good for his overall game? Perhaps he needs to consider that what really matters most among elite golfers is the ability to hole clutch birdie putts. DeChambeau also has something in mind for that as well. He’s switched to a putter that has new technology with graduated lofts on the face.
Mad Scientist? For sure!

Normally Its overboard city. Obsessed much?
But it’s Bryson.
240 was questioned but seemed to be working. 270 is just another experiment.
Bryson has said he does what he does because he is less gifted than other players but he is an athletic specimen for golf. Imo. The fact he can even consider 270 as an asset shows what a physical beast this guy is.
Imo his physical gifts are what allow bryson to experiment so much without falling off the wagon.
Only Time will tell how Bryson does with his Mo Norman swing in a Gronk body.
Btw things keep getting better for the bucs…you think there’s some interest now Tom ?

I think our sports, all of our sports, will have a whole new level of appreciation when they return; As for Bryson, well, they don’t call him “The Mad Scientist” for nothing!

Nothing has really blown up in brysons face yet.
As for the bucs, it’s different.
That excitement is separate from everything.
Now the bucs got their needed tackle last nite in the draft, although it cost something to move up one spot, which the 9ers were likely not going to use on that player, but still, another puzzle piece in place.
During the golf event those 3 need to needle Brady about the big change.
All 4 will need to be needle plenty because sans 9$million to winner it will be difficult to keep viewers invested in the result like last time…it really will be more about good times this time.
