There are many who wonder what things would look today had Tiger Woods never left the tutelage of Butch Harmon.
Harmon was Woods’ go-to guy when Tiger was in his prime. Woods won three U.S. Amateur titles and eight major championships when he worked with Harmon.
After an endless stream of swing coaches and more than a half-dozen surgeries later, Woods’ future is once again in doubt following his withdrawal last week from the Dubai Desert Classic.
Harmon is a popular guy with Sky Sports in the U.K. and he spoke last week about Woods.
“I’d like to say yes but it doesn’t seem likely at the moment,” Harmon said when asked about Woods returning to his old form. “Tiger is 41-years-old, he’s had three back surgeries and four knee surgeries and the young kids on tour right now are playing better and better.”
“We all want to see him playing well again,” Harmon said, echoing the popular sentiment around the world of golf. “But right now I’m concerned that someone I have admired for so long, and who I believe is the best player who ever lived, might not be able to play at any kind of level again.”
Harmon also felt that last week’s WD in Dubai does not bode well for Woods.
“He’s been off for almost a year and a half, and now he’s come back but he still can’t finish a tournament. To me, that’s not a good sign.”
