A 62 on moving day is a wonderful thing and thus it was for Paul Casey on Saturday at The Travelers.
Casey had a perfect scorecard on a cool, wet afternoon — six birdies and an eagle at the 15th thanks to a great tee shot and a 23-foot putt for the two on the drivable par four.
Casey’s round was the best of the tournament, got him to 16-under par and opened up a four-shot lead for the Englishman over Russell Henley.
J.B. Holmes, Anirban Lahiri and overnight leader Brian Harman were in at 11-under.
None of the big names in the field made any significant move. Rory McIlroy’s 69 left him eight behind Casey, Justin Thomas shot 70 and Jordan Spieth struggled again with a 71 on a day that was perfect for scoring.
Casey is looking for his second win this season. He won on the Florida Swing at the Valspar. It would be a career first for him — he’s never had a multiple win season on the PGA Tour.
