Phil Mickelson is about nine months from 50.
Yes, Lefty is being pursued hotly by the Big Five-Oh.
June 16th to be exact.
As he approaches the half-century mark, Philly Mick has undergone a transformation of sorts — he’s lost a LOT of weight.
That was evident in the photo above and in another one taken this summer at the beach during some Mickelson down time. It’s not the Phil Mickelson we’ve seen over the past years.
This past summer, Mickelson went on a fast and shed 15 pounds before the Open Championship last July. From the looks of his recent beach photos, he’s kept up the healthy eating.
Mickelson makes his 2019-2020 season debut this week. He’s the biggest name playing in the Grocery Store Open, aka The Safeway. Silverado Resort, with Johnny Miller as one of the owners, is smack dab in the middle of wine country out there in Napa. Lefty, being a wine connoisseur, among other things, finds it the perfect place for a little warm-up.
Mickelson isn’t the only name in this week’s PGA Tour stop. Justin Thomas is there, so is Pat Cantlay. Hideki Matsuyama is still trying to return to his old form and Adam Scott is getting in some reps, hoping the Internationals won’t get blown out at the Presidents Cup in December.
Francesco Molinari finished 14th last week at the European PGA at Wentworth and he’s looking to improve from an inconsistent season last year.
Kevin Tway is the defending champion and Silverado will bring back good memories for the long hitter.
All-in-all, a pretty good field compared to most of these cross-over season events.
And that’s a good thing.

Lefty has more weight fluctuations than a Kardashian.
