It wasn’t a pretty day at the Farmers Open Saturday.
Most of the contenders were playing defense on a difficult Torrey Pines South Course and if that wasn’t enough, really bad weather is on its way for Sunday.
K.J. Choi and Scott Brown are the co-leaders through 54 holes, neither broke 70.
They’re nine-under par and a shot in front of Jimmy Walker and Gary Woodland, who shared the 36 hole lead with Choi.
Walker was the only one of the top four contenders to shoot a sub-70 score. He was good for 68.
The day’s low round came from Jonas Blixt. His 66 bolted him into a tie at seven-under par with Michael Kim, John Huh and Freddie Jacobson.
The highest-ranked player left in the field is Dustin Johnson. He started the day a shot off the lead but found himself in the deep rough too many times and wound up with a 74 to finish at six-under.
Conditions could get ugly for the final round as severe weather was moving into the San Diego area late Saturday. The PGA Tour will move up all the tee times in an effort to get the final round in.
If the weather turns bad and the already penal rough gets wet, it could end up as a survival test over the final 18.
