First-round co-leader In Gee Chun took over by herself Friday at the Evian Championship and she will take a two-shot lead into the weekend of the LPGA’s final major of the season.
Chun added a 66 to her opening 63 and she’s an astonishing 13-under par after a couple of successful trips around the Evian Golf Club.
Looking up at her at 11-under is Olympic bronze medalist Shanshan Feng (67) and Sung Hyun Park (68). Park spends most of her time playing on the Korean LPGA but if she makes her move, she could end up as one of the best on the LPGA Tour.
American Angela Stanford got within four of Chun. Rounds of 65-68 put her at nine under, a shot ahead of fellow American Brittany Lincicome (68-66).
Everyone’s first question is always: What about Lydia Ko and Ariya Jutanugarn?
Both made moves up the leader board Friday. Ko, the defending champion, shot a 68 and at four-under, she’s in a tie for 13th. Jutanugarn rebounded from her opening 73 with a 67 but has a lot of ground to make up over the final 36 holes. She’s two-under and tied for 24th.
American Annie Park, who was a shot off the lead in the first round with a 64, fell back to earth Friday with a 73.
