With the FedEx Cup playoffs nearly upon us, we’re stepping into the business of passing out some pre-playoff superlatives.
We’ve come up with some interesting categories and we’ll span a very large and diverse range of players so let’s get to it with these DogLegNews Pre-Playoff Superlatives:
Pre-Playoff Player Of The Year: Collin Morikawa. FedEx points leader heading into the playoffs, No. 3 in the world, lost in the Bronze Medal Olympic playoff. Winner of the 2021 Open Championship and the WGC-Workday. Collin’s ready to step it up to the next level. Would love to see him do well in the playoffs and lead the FedEx points list heading into the Tour Championship. Can you imagine letting this kid start at 10-under par before the first tee shot? Total mis-match.
Most Improved Player: Jon Rahm. Jon took that next big step and won himself a major at the U.S. Open. He has developed a game that should make him a threat anytime, anywhere for a long time. No. 4 in the FedEx Cup points list, No. 1 in the world. Had the best major season: the U.S. Open win, T5 at The Masters, T8 at the PGA and T3 at the Open Championship. He’s obviously No. 1 for a reason.
The Comeback Kid: Jordan Spieth. Has broken out of his long, ugly slump. No. 2 on the FedEx points list, has climbed to No. 12 in the world rankings. Good to have you back, Jordy.
Best Player NOT In The Playoffs: Will Zalatoris. He’s No. 29 in the world and would be high up in the FedEx points list but instead, has ZERO FedEx Cup points. Why? Because as good as he has performed this year, he’s still not a PGA Tour card holder and is a top 10 guy on the Korn Ferry Tour meaning he’ll get his Tour card for next season.
Star Slumper: Rickie Fowler. Unless he plays well at the Wyndham, he’s going to miss the playoffs. Has no prayer of playing in the Ryder Cup and has humiliated himself by offering to be a golf cart driver at Whistling Straits next month. Rickie’s fallen to No. 110 in the world rankings and is 130th in FedEx points and was off to a slow start at the Wyndham on Thursday.
Best Player Over 40: Stewart Cink. At age 48, won The Heritage. He’s 17th in FedEx points and ranked 44th in the world. Outstanding!
Best Player Over 50: Phil Mickelson. Won the PGA right before turning 50. Outstanding! 58th in FedEx points, No. 32 in the world.
Biggest Underachiever: Dustin Johnson. Unless he wins a playoff event, it will break his record of 11-straight seasons with a win. No. 2 in the world. 15th in FedEx points.
Least Improved: Tony Finau: No. 22 in the world, No. 23 in FedEx points. Has been a ghost on the leader-boards since the PGA. Could rival D.J. as the biggest underachiever.
Rising Star: Abraham Ancer: Starting to realize his potential. Great putter, gritty player. Has risen to No. 11 in the world rankings with that win last week at the WGC-St. Jude and is 18th in FedEx points. Expect him to make some noise in the playoffs.
Most Controversial: Bryson DeChambeau: Could it be anyone else?
Slowest: Bryson DeChambeau: Could it be anyone else?
Over 40 And Sliding Down: Matt Kuchar, Justin Rose: A tie on this one. Rose is 31 and probably won’t make the playoffs, sitting at 139 and in need of a really high finish at Wyndham. He did receive the Payne Stewart Award, which marks the Tour’s “best citizen.” As for Kooch The Caddie Mooch, he’s 43, has fallen to 80th in the world rankings and 123 in FedEx points, dangling on the bubble.
Southern Gentleman Award: Harris English. He’s every bit of that and more, even stuck up for DeChambeau last week after an awful Sunday in Memphis. Probably the only player who defends Bryson besides Bryson.
So there’s a few to chew on, our DogLeg pre-playoff superlatives and not-so-superlatives.
On to Liberty National.

Watching Olympic golf I found the Irish women’s uniforms were excellent, white shirts and hats with green logo’s. While the Men’s uniforms hardly looked remotely Irish, drab gray’s with no green I can only wonder who designed there outfits?

I kinda liked some of the shirt the men from India wore, great design and quite colorful!

I can’t remember the men but Ashok was worst dressed by a mile.

Poor Aditi, on top of that, her clothes didn’t fit properly, how about that cap?

If I was in charge of Cobra golf I’d drop DeChambo just as fast at Polo dropped Justin Thomas. His remark about his driver at The Open was beyond the pale!

Seems Bryson simply can’t get out of his own way and the phrase: “I’m sorry” is not in his vocabulary…He gets a lot of endorsement deals, Rocket Mortgage, the trac-man with Bubba (now there’s a pair) and more — Cobra/Puma has been very, very good to him….

No real arguments here except brooksie deserves honorable mention for most controversial…Definitely biggest troll.
Btw Bryson and bubba are with flightscope.

I was going to dub Brooksie: “Grumpiest” or “Most Monotone Interview” “Most Boring” — Pat Cantlay, among others.
baxter cepeda
Grumpiest is the better fit
For brooksie.
Don’t forget my boy cantlays super interesting Masters presser.
Tom Edrington
Cantlay is so far off my radar …. he’s a tiny blip!
baxter cepeda
Cantlay can’t be totally off your radar considering you brought him up in post 3.1.
Tom Edrington
Like I said, he’s a small blip on the radar!
