It’s becoming a familiar pattern for Jordan Spieth — good play on Thursday and Friday — stinkfest on weekends.
Jordan Spieth’s battle with the wild tee ball proved contagious during Saturday’s third round at the Northern Trust. Spieth blocked his opening tee shot into the water hazard on the right side of the first hole at Liberty National. He made bogey to start his day and set the tone for his round.
Only problem is that Spieth’s wildness proved contagious — and Dustin Johnson ended up catching a case of the wayward drives.
By day’s end, it was basically a battle of the missed fairways and both Spieth and Johnson fell out of contention with dueling 74s.
Johnson, who held the overnight lead at 12-under, fell all the way back into a tie for 10th at nine-under par. Spieth finished eight-under, tied for 13th.
