Okay, here is where we give a quick lesson on the difference between the PGA of America and the PGA Tour.
The PGA of America owns and runs the Ryder Cup matches that are being contested later this week up at Hazeltine National.
The PGA of America also names its Player Of The Year and it has done so, naming Dustin Johnson as POY, to the surprise of no one.
The PGA of America, the organization that is home to the golf course professionals who do all the hard work at your local club, has a points system and D.J. was the leading points-getter with 90, far outdistancing second place Jason Day, who had 74. Adam Scott was a distant third with 54.
Johnson is also the favorite to be named the PGA Tour’s Player Of The Year. The PGA Tour owns and operates the weekly events that folks like Johnson, Jordan Spieth, Day and the rest travel to compete against each other.
Johnson was also named as the winner of the Vardon Trophy that goes to the lowest scoring average for the year on the PGA Tour. Johnson was tops with a 69.17 scoring average.
