Soren Kjeldsen and Thorbjorn Olesen will take a four-shot lead into Sunday’s final round at the World Cup in Melbourne and they’ll also go head-to-head with Americans Rickie Fowler and Jimmy Walker.
The Danes combined for an alternate shot 70 while Fowler and Walker carded a 69 at the Kingston Heath Golf Club, tying them for the day’s low round in the event’s more difficult format. Olesen and Kjeldsen are at 14-under par through 54 holes and will have some breathing room over the final 18 with a four margin over the U.S. team.
“If it affects us it’s our own fault, that’s for sure.” Kjeldsen said of going head-to-head with Fowler and Walker. “We need to keep doing what we’re doing, it’s attack for sure,” said Kjeldsen, who combined with Olesen for a 12-under par best-ball score on day two, the lowest of the tournament.
The surprise team of the competition is the Chinese duo of Haotong Li and Ashun Wi. Their even par 72 in the third round got them to nine-under par and in solo third.
Spain’s Jon Rahm and Rafa Cabrera-Bello struggled a bit in the alternate shot with a one-over par 73 that dropped them back into a tie for fourth with the teams from France and Japan.
