Bryson DeChambeau wanted to get off to a great start on Saturday at the RBC Heritage.
That’s exactly what he got with birdies at the first, second and fourth holes at the Harbour Town Golf Links.
Perhaps then he glanced at the leaderboard and saw that he was tied for the lead at seven-under par.
He then disappeared.
His driver was the culprit at the par five fifth when he made the first of three front-nine bogeys that would put him back where he started the day — four-under par.
He steadied himself coming home but another errant drive at the par five 15th cost him another bogey. He would finish with 72 and drop from a tie for 11th to a tie for 15th.
He remained undaunted.
“It’s been a great week,” he said afterward. “I’m not worried about the money. I’m here to win championships, I’m looking forward to tomorrow. It’s been a great week.”
