Bryson DeChambeau wasn’t as sharp as he was the first two days in Dubai but he was good enough to keep the lead at the Dubai Desert Classic after Saturday’s third round.
DeChambeau birdied the 17th hole with a great up-and-down from over the green to take a one-shot lead but couldn’t birdie the par five 18th after a poor layup shot that found the left rough.
The world’s No. 5 shot 68 to get to 16-under par, one better than defending champion Haotong Li. Li finished birdie-birdie for 67 and posted 15-under.
DeChambeau wasn’t pleased with his day’s work.
“I’m still leading, obviously. It’s fantastic. I couldn’t be displeased with that but my expectation levels are for how I know I can perform, and I feel like I’m under-performing a little bit,” DeChambeau said. “I’m still in the lead, still got the job done. I made it happen when necessary and hopefully I can have one more of those days and maybe even a better ball-striking day.”
