He’s only 24-years old but Denmark’s Lucas Bjerregaard is making a name for himself on the European Tour.
The young Dane has been knocking on the door but hasn’t won yet. He’s out to change that at the BMW Masters as he shot a second straight 66 Friday and leads by three shots going into the weekend.
“It was a great round and I finished with some good birdies coming in,” said Bjerregaard, who birdied three of his last four holes and is three in front of first round leader Sergio Garcia, who cooled off after shooting 64 and finished with 71 and is tied with Thongchai Jaidee.
Ian Poulter, who is pushing hard to stack up some Ryder Cup points, moved into a tie for fourth at eight-under.
Peter Uihlein managed to birdie seven holes in a row starting at the 15th, playing the back nine at Lake Malaren first.
They will all be pursuing Bjerregaard who hit 16 greens and had just 29 putts. He’s currently 50th in the Race To Dubai and will be at the finale next week but has his eyes on a win and a big move up in the points standings.
