Better not let Nancy Pelosi, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the rest of their left-handed Congressional hench-women get hold of this one.
Seems former PGA Tour player Tom Gillis started a nasty rumor on Twitter last week that now two-time winner this season — Matt Kuchar — was less than generous to his local caddie last November when he won the Mayakoba Classic.
After Kuchar shot a second-straight 63 last Friday at the Sony Open, Gillis fired this out on Twitter:
“If Kuchar wins this weekend (at the Sony Open) let’s hope he pays his man more than ($3,000) like the last win. ($45 million) in (career) earnings. Could’ve changed the man’s life.”
Kuchar’s regular caddie, John Wood, wasn’t available for the trip to Mexico last November and Kuchar hired local looper David Giral Ortiz on the recommendation of the tournament director.
Kuchar went so far as to refer to Ortiz as his “lucky charm” after Kuch ended a four-year victory drought.
Naturally the press was curious and the subject came up after Kuchar’s round on Saturday.
Kuchar was a little curt but offered this:
“That’s not a story,” Kuchar said. “It’s wasn’t 10 percent. It wasn’t $3,000. It’s not a story.”
It’s not a story unless there’s some sort of confirmation from Ortiz.
No doubt Wood probably received a six-figure pay-day on Sunday after Kuchar’s win at The Sony.
As for the paycheck for Ortiz?
Hopefully Pelosi and her gang won’t launch a Congressional inquiry.
