World’s No. 2 Dustin Johnson will not go to the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.
Johnson finalized his decision on Saturday after weighing all the concerns:
“This was not an easy decision for me. But my concern about the Zika virus cannot be ignored.”
Johnson went on to say he was making the decision because he and fiancée Paulina Gretzky plan on having more children.
Johnson said he has great respect for the games but in this case, his family came first and foremost.
He joins a long list of world-class players who will not travel to Rio for the games.
World’s No. 1 Jason Day won’t be there, neither will Rory McIlroy, Adam Scott, Graeme McDowell, Louis Oosthuize and Charl Schwartzel to name a few.
Jordan Spieth and Rickie Fowler have not made their final decisions either. If they choose to go, they would be joined by Bubba Watson and now, Patrick Reed, in for Johnson.
