The world’s second-most famous injured back should be just fine.
Dustin Johnson’s untimely fall the day before the first round of the Masters sent him home last week but he’s on the mend and will show up to play in the Wells Fargo Championship on May 4. Johnson and the rest of that field will be playing for the first time at the Eagle Point Club in Wilmington. Quail Hollow is prepping for the PGA Championship in August.
An MRI showed no structural damage to Johnson’s back, mostly it was just a deep bruise on the left side, sustained when he slipped on a staircase while wearing only socks. “I thought I broke my back in half,” Johnson said as he looked back on the incident. “I really thought my back was broken.”
It wasn’t and Johnson tried to play last week, he was on his way to the first tee when he knew he couldn’t make a full-speed golf swing and announced his withdrawal minutes before his 2:05 p.m. starting time.
Johnson committed to the Wells Fargo on Thursday as his recovery is going well.
He had planned to take three weeks off following the Masters so basically, his schedule remains in tact.
Johnson may be lucky enough to avoid joining The Tiger Woods Bad Back Club.
