Evian-les-Bains gave the world its first expensive, hip, bottled water.
The Evian Championship, the LPGA’s final major of the season was supposed to start on Thursday.
It didn’t, thanks to too much water in Evian, a true irony.
The Evian Resort was pelted by high winds and rain. They got some of the early players out but then pulled them off the course when conditions got really bad.
World’s No. 1 So Yeon Ryu was off to a great start. She was two-under through five holes. Jessica Korda was two-under. World’s No. 2 Lexi Thompson was even par through five.
Doesn’t matter, they wiped out all the scores.
An even more unusual decision was made — they cut the championship to 54 holes.
That’s a no-no, at least when a major championship is involved. Nonetheless, that’s what they are doing, as strange as it appears.
Nothing wrong with a Monday finish.
So they’ll try again on Friday make it all that much more important to get off to a really good start.
Hopefully the Evian Water will stop falling from the sky.
