While you contemplate a night’s stroll on Beale St., these third-round St. Jude additives:
It’s not exactly a glamour pairing in the last group Sunday at the FedEx St. Jude Classic.
Greg Owen of England, ranked 342nd in the world and Argentine Fabian Gomez, ranked 288th, are your leaders at nine-under par.
Brooks Koepka started the day at nine-under but had some front nine issues that produced three bogeys. He rolled in a 22-footer at the 18th hole for his only birdie of the day and his 71 left him a shot back at eight-under and he’ll chase the leaders in the next-to-last pairing with Scott Brown.
The player with the most to gain on Sunday is Austin Cook. Cook has no PGA Tour status and conditional status on the Web.com Tour. His third round of 72 has him three back along with Matt Jones. If Cook can hold his position, a top-10 will get him into the next PGA Tour event after the U.S. Open.
Best round of the day was a 65 by Tim Wilkinson that put him in a group of eight players tied at five-under par.
Phil Mickelson got off to a poor start with a double-bogey six at the opening hole. “I had to play solid golf from that point to get in at even par,” Mickelson said after shooting 70 and holding his spot at three-under, tied for 19th.
