Turns out that the Brits are still pretty good at getting the news first.
It was the Telegraph that spilled the bean early last week, telling the world that Jim Fuyrk would be the U.S. Ryder Cup captain for the 2018 matches in Paris.
Turned out the Telegraph was spot on.
Later in the week, Furyk was indeed named and it was certainly the worst-kept secret in the world of golf.
DoglegNews had speculated last year that Furyk was certainly next in line and would probably be the logical choice.
So enough of that back-patting.
The choice had come down to Furyk and Fred Couples but there was never a contest there. With the choice of Furyk, the window may have closed on Couples for the Ryder Cup captaincy.
Next up for the U.S.? That would be 2020 when the matches come back to the U.S.A. up in Wisconsin at Whistling Straits.
And the favorite for the U.S. captaincy in 2020? We’ll put it out there right now, no doubt about it, it will be Steve Stricker.
Yep, Stricker, Wisconsin’s favorite son. Write it down.
