Gene Siller was the Director of Golf at Pinetree Country Club in Kennesaw, Georgia and a member of the PGA Of America.
On Saturday, the PGA professional’s life came to a tragic end when he was shot and killed on the 10th green of the club’s course in the early afternoon.
Siller, working on the weekend as most club professionals do, saw a white Ram 3500 truck drive onto the course from an adjacent neighborhood. The truck got stuck near the 10th green according to local police reports. Siller went to see what the problem was and he was shot.
Cobb County police responded around 2:30 p.m. and found Siller unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police also found two more bodies in the bed of the abandoned Dodge truck.
A manhunt is ongoing and the suspect is still at large.
The community is in shock and there has been an outpouring of support for Siller’s family as he left behind a wife and two young children, ages six and seven.
PGA of America President Jim Richerson issued this statement:
“We are truly heartbroken to hear about the senseless murder that took place yesterday at Pine Tree Country Club in Georgia that took the life of PGA member Gene Siller. The PGA of America sends our thoughts, prayers and deepest sympathy to his family, club and the Georgia PGA Community.”
The Georgia Section issued this statement:
