Steve Bowditch can’t make a cut these days.
He made it four-for-four with MCs during the recent cross-over season, the four events that actually started the PGA Tour’s 2016-2017 year.
He shot 78-79 at the Safeway, 73-70 at the Shriner’s, 81-72 at Mayakoba then 77-87 at the RSM. Yes, the 87 is no typo. Eighty-seven.
You look back at his season and it wasn’t much of a season, missing cuts is a way of life for Bowditch, which means you will see less and less of him in the coming year.
When things go south, as they have for the Aussie with the caterpillar eyebrows, some wackiness can emerge and Bowditch has come up with some wackiness.
He has thrown a challenge of sorts at Andrew “Beef” Johnston, one of the up-and-coming stars from Europe, the working-man’s golfer, he ain’t pretty and he doesn’t care.
You might call this one the “Beef-Birdie-Beer Challenge.”
Bowditch took to Twitter and threw out that he and Boo Weekly would challenge Johnston and a partner to be named to some sort of challenge that would involve eating, drinking and some limited golf.
Johnston didn’t hesitate to throw his hat and beard in the ring and came back with the proposal that he would go for none other than J.D., as in John Daly, as his partner in such a nonsensical, whimsical challenge.
Makes sense.
Beer drinking? Daly could probably down more than a medium-sized fraternity.
Golf? No contest, with Bowditch struggling to break 80 and Weekly spending his time these days doing more hunting and fishing than golf, that’s a no-brainer. Go with Beef and J.D.
Eating?
Not sure Bowditch and Boo want to get anywhere near Daly and Johnston.
In the end, when you think about it, it just might make for a great off-season show.
Perfect for Fox.
