You wouldn’t expect to find a Los Angeles traffic jam in White Sulfur Springs, West Virginia, but the way things are stacked up at the Greenbrier Classic, that’s exactly what you have.
First, there are not two or three but four players tied for the 54-hole lead at nine-under par. Jason Bohn roared to the top of the pack early with a nine-under par 61 that put him into the foursome. Later it was Sean O’Hair (66), S.J. Park (66), and Bryce Molder (67) joining in on the fun at the Old White Course.
To make things even more confusing, four more are a shot back. Justin Thomas, David Hearn, Danny Lee and Chad Collier are in at eight-under par. You can disregard the threesome that is a mere two shots back. Jonathan Byrd, Brendon Todd and Memorial winner David Lingmerth are at nine-under.
And the most-asked question these days when he’s in an event — what about Tiger Woods? Woods simply couldn’t keep pace with the rest. His one-over par 71 was very undistinguished when you consider the field averaged a shade over 68 for the day. Woods is tied for 47th at four-under.
Bohn had no such problems. He turned in a 10-birdie effort and shot his 61 despite a bogey at the par four 11th.
The final round will begin with 16 players within three shots of the leaders.
Fireworks? Yes, there were plenty on Saturday night but more to come on Sunday.
