Forget that guy in the Dos Equis commercial who they claim is the World’s Most Interesting Man.
The real World’s Most Interesting Man will make his major broadcasting debut this week on the Fox network.
Greg Norman will be the lead analyst sitting alongside Joe Buck. This is Fox’s first shot at a major golf championship and the network will no doubt be looking to make a huge splash.
Norman is a great choice because he IS the world’s most interesting man. At age 60 he looks better than most guys half his age. His net worth is north of $300 million. He is the ultimate sportsman, outdoorsman and brings incredible perspective for this major championship.
Fact is, no one has experienced the highs and lows of big-time golf more than Norman. He’s had the biggest heartbreaks and did prevail in two British Open championships. He spent 331 weeks as the best player in the world.
Today’s he’s a single man, a major entrepreneur, has his own clothing line, his own wine collection. He has restaurants, eye wear lines, golf academies and his own investment funds. He has business partnerships with no less than 11 major companies.
He has all the man-toys — a huge yacht, his own jet, mansions, cars, you name it, if he doesn’t have it, it’s because he doesn’t want it.
Doesn’t get better than that.
He should bring a lot to the broadcast with that unmistakable Aussie accent and his wealth of playing experience.
The rest of the Fox team is a lot less high profile. Brad Faxon and Steve Flesch are two of the hole announcers. Corey Pavin and Tom Weiskopf will do analysis. Julie Inkster and Scott McCarron will be hoofin’ it as on course foot-soldiers. Curt Menefee will have studio duties, David Fay of the USGA will handle rules controversy and something that hasn’t been done in previous majors — golf course architect Gil Hanse will be on hand to comment on the unusual features of the Chambers Bay property.
Should be a great time for viewers.
Stay tuned.
