It’s a pretty nice field this week at The Travelers, all things considered.
Yes, it’s the week after a major, a major that tires players but they’ve still got a lot of name guys at TPC River Highlands.
U.S. Open runnerup Brooks Koepka is there but since this isn’t a major, he’s probably pretty disinterested.
Two guys who will be giving it their all are two prominent kids who just left collegiate golf powerhouse Oklahoma State. One is Viktor Hovland, coming off a four-under par performance at Pebble Beach and a tie for 12th. Wolff is the Haskins Award winner and individual champion at last month’s NCAA championships.
Hovland, the reigning U.S. Amateur champ and No. 1 amateur in the world will have guys like defending champion Bubba Watson in the field along with Bryson DeChambeau, Justin Thomas, Francesco Molinari, Jordan Spieth, Paul Casey, Jason Day, Brandt Snedeker and Louie Oosthuizen.
Thing is, Hovland beat all those guys last week with the exception of Oosthuizen.
Viktor has a large personality, big distance off the tee and a really solid all-around game.
Same for Wolff. He’s the guy with the really funky looking swing but it repeats shot after shot. He has enormous power with the driver.
Together, the two former Cowboys should be fun to watch.
In the meantime, Bubba, who missed the cut last week, will try and become the first four-time winner of this event since Billy Casper.
