Of course, Bubba Watson started his week at the Hero World Challenge whining about what a difficult course Albany is there in the Bahamas.
It couldn’t have been that hard or maybe Bubba was just messin’ with everyone because he blew past the rest of the field with a course record nine-under par 63 Saturday and is by himself at the top, in at an amazing 19-under par through 54 holes.
It took another 63, one by Paul Casey, to keep someone close to Watson. Casey’s fine play got him to 17-under and he’ll play in the final pairing with Watson on Sunday with $1 million awaiting the winner in this event hosted by Tiger Woods.
Overnight co-leader Jordan Spieth could do no better than 68 and that left him four back of Watson at 15-under with playing partner Bill Haas.
Patrick Reed and Chris Kirk shot 66s to get within three of Watson at 16-under.
Watson hit a spectacular shot early in his round when he hit a knock-down seven-iron from 169-yards out on the par four fourth hole. “Down, down,” Watson yelled at his ball while it was in the air. It obeyed. It landed about three feet short of the cup and rolled into the hole for a deuce.
