Ian Poulter has won nearly $18 million playing professional golf.
The brash Englishman is worth nearly $20 million.
He has a collection of Ferraris and lives in a mansion at Lake Nona, the ritzy gated community outside Orlando.
He’s been ranked as high as No. 5 in the world. At the 2008 Ryder Cup, he was the leading point winner for either team.
Today, however, Poulter desperately needs to win just north of $30,000 at this week’s PGA Tour stop — the Valero Texas Open.
In Poulter’s world, $30,000 probably doesn’t cover the insurance on his Ferrari collection. But that’s about what he needs this week in order to retain his PGA Tour card. The exact number is $30,624. He finished in a tie for 11th last week at the RBC Heritage and some missed birdie opportunities down the stretch would have covered what he needed to keep his card.
Poulter is playing on a major medical exemption after the time it took to recover from a foot injury that plagued him.
His game has suffered and he’s dropped to 190th in the world rankings, but that’s up from 210 the week prior to his showing at Harbour Town.
Poulter doesn’t want to talk about his situation and it shows the pressure he’s under this week.
First things first, he has to make the 36-hole cut on the difficult TPC San Antonio course.
Then he’ll probably need a top 30 finish.
That would do it.
He played well last week but needs to do it again.
Simple as that.

Tom,
I think he will do it. he may have tightened up a bit last Sunday at Harbour Town but there is no shame in that–i played that course absolutely adored it but not easy by any measure.
prediction: Poulter gets his 30+g’s and has a card

Hope so Bob, Poulter is on the comeback trail, doesn’t want to go back and play in Europe because he’s settled in over here. Wants to play well enough to be on the next European Ryder Cup team but they have a lot of young talent coming up.
