For the longest time, Brooks Koepka was the younger guy in the shadow of then world’s No. 1 Dustin Johnson.
But now, heading into this week’s 2019 Tournament of Champions in Maui, it is a case of role reversal.
It’s Dustin Johnson who is now standing in the very big shadow of three-time major champion Brooks Koepka, the man who already has two majors more than D.J.
Johnson is the defending champion this week but after finishing the major season last year with a missed cut at the Open Championship and a not-so-impressive 27th at the PGA, you wonder what’s in store this year for the world’s former No. 1 who now sits at No. 3, two spots behind Koepka.
Tiger Woods is still the biggest name on the planet but the best performer in majors over the past two season is Koepka, who has won three of the last six he’s played in.
Next up for Koepka in the career check list is more of those “regular” victories and he’ll have his chance starting Thursday at Kapalua.
This is not a tough one to win with the very small field, barely larger than the Tour Championship. Tough to go against D.J., who has six top 10s in this event.
The only qualified players missing from the field are Justin Rose, Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods.
