You gotta hand it to Johnny Miller.
As Tiger Woods likes to say when he wants to zing a member of the working press:
“You’re a real beauty.”
Well, after listening to what Miller had to say about Tiger Woods, all we can say is:
“Johnny, you’re a real beauty.”
Tiger Woods’ lap-dog, Notah Begay, might get jealous when he sees this but apparently Miller has jumped on the Tiger Woods Total Recovery, Better Than Ever Tour Band Wagon.
“I really pick him to win six or eight tournaments in the second career, at least, that’s my feeling,” is what Miller spouted after Wednesday’s announcement that Woods HOPES to play in the Safeway next month in Silverado.
Seriously?
Woods hasn’t won a tournament since the 2013 WGC-Bridgestone and you have to wonder how this comeback is going to go for Woods.
Woods doesn’t sound all the confident, throwing out words like: “if, hope” and the rest of the adjectives that indicate the unknown nature of how his body will hold up when he attempts to return to competitive golf.
Six or eight wins is a pretty darn good career for a lot of PGA Tour players.
It sure sounds like Miller has fallen into that “longing for the old Tiger” trap.
Woods’ prime has come and gone.
Johnny Miller just hasn’t gotten the news yet.

Tom,
9 months ago on my radio blog I predicted that neither Phil nor Tiger would ever win a PGA Tour event or major again–neither–so far I am correct—many, many reasons not the least of which is the fact that they will press when under final round pressure to win. Winning is the culmination of following a process and system to get in position to win—not easy to accomplish that task especially when the competition is so keen and plentiful in today’s PGA Tour world.
i maintain my stance–neither one will ever win again. Your thoughts????

It will be very tough for either Tiger or Phil to win another major. I can see Tiger winning one of those “lesser-field” events, maybe, I just do not believe his short game will be anywhere near the level it used to be, especially his putting. The problem with age is that at some point, the putts don’t go in.

Oh my friend, you have hit me right in the gut, lol…. Johnny Miller is not only delusional but living in a different era of golf.
I can’t stand him. He is a horrible commentator who only talks about his 63 at Oakmont every chance he gets. I rather listen to Faldo and I think he is a popinjay also, lol….
I’m afraid Tiger is done. It saddens me see him go down the way he is instead of retiring with grace and while he was on top.
Good article as always Tom.

Yes, Johnny can get old in a hurry, I was thrilled when Stenson shot 63 in the last round to steal that crown from Miller. Now he can’t make that claim “the only man to shoot 63 in the final round of a major.” And Miller got out early at Oakmont, Stenson did it playing in the lead group. Huge difference. I like Faldo, I ran into him many times when I covered the tour and he had no sense of humor, he’s gotten more jovial in his old age.
