Right now there are a bunch of Italians running around with the request:
“Hey buddy can you spare $103 million?”
In case you haven’t noticed, the powers to be that oversee the Ryder Cup in Europe have begun to venture out, looking to score some major cash from other countries that might want to host what has become a phenomenal event.
In Europe the Ryder Cup is controlled by a joint venture. The European Tour is the big player, controlling 60 percent, the PGA of Great Britain and Ireland control 20 percent the the PGA of Europe also has 20 percent.
It’s no secret that the joint venture has basically put the Ryder Cup matches up for sale. Takes at least $100 million to get it. Paris will host the matches in 2018, just outside the city at Le Golf National. That’s a done deal.
The 2022 matches are slated to go to Italy and the Marco Simone Golf and Country Club just outside of Rome is the scheduled venue.
Problem is that money’s pretty tight in Italy these days and the legislature just shot down a bill that would have put out $103 million to host the event.
Now they’re looking for money.
It’s all leaning in the wrong direction, kinda like that famous tower in Pisa.
