Evidently the “testing” Tiger Woods referred to at the Hero World Challenge last week, went well on Monday and Tuesday because on Wednesday, it became official — Tiger and Charlie Woods have entered the PNC Championship next weekend at the Ritz Carlton Golf Club in Orlando.
Tiger took to his Twitter account to break the news:
“Although it’s been a long and challenging year, I am very excited to close it out by competing in the PNC Championship with my son Charlie. I’m playing as a Dad and couldn’t be more excited and proud.”
Well, if Tiger’s excited, just imagine what the rest of the golf world is feeling right now.
Television ratings could be sky-high. Two or three months ago, no one anticipated that we’d see Tiger on a golf course, in an actual competition in mid-December.
Tiger and Charlie finished seventh in the field last year.
Tiger hinted he’d be showing up, admitting he could play “hit and giggle” events and this is one of those. Walking won’t be an issue as Tiger will use a golf cart.
Alastair Johnston from IMG, which is producing the event said:
“We have been liaising with Tiger and his team for some time and are delighted that he has now decided to make his return to competitive golf at the PNC Championship.”
So is everyone else, Alastair.
