Time to find out what all the fuss is about.
It’s time for “The Return.”
Time for Tiger Woods to show what he’s got.
What’s all the fuss about? Well, he still IS Tiger Woods.
“He’s our greatest champion,” says Hero World Challenge defending champion Bubba Watson, owner of two Green Jackets, that’s still two less than Woods. In fact, with most of the world’s current list of great players competing at Albany starting Thursday morning, Woods has more major championship than the rest of the 17 players COMBINED.
Woods has declared himself “nervous” yet says emphatically he’s ready to go.
Equipped with a new driver (TaylorMade M2), his old putter (Scotty Cameron Newport 2) and a new golf ball (Bridgestone 330S), Woods will have it at, hopefully for all 72 holes at the Ernie Els-designed course in the Bahamas resort of Albany.
Woods has impressed on the practice tee, impressed on the course but this time, it’s for real, sort of. With the small field, no cut, it’s as controlled a return environment as it gets.
Woods insists there are no short game issues. “I love chipping,” he said this week.
“I think Tiger needs a few months under his belt to get the results he wants,” observed Jack Nicklaus, the only man with more major championships than Woods.
One thing is for sure, the eyes of the golf world are focused on Albany starting Thursday.
And once again, as he has been his entire golfing life, Tiger Wood will be under the microscope.
