First man to cash in on the Huge Asian Money Grab is none other than Justin Thomas.
J.T. did what he was expected to do — outduel Danny Lee for the championship Sunday at Nine Brides Resort.
It was a resume mismatch — Thomas vs. Lee and J.T. responded with a closing 67 and his 20-under par total nipped Lee by two shots.
Round of the day went to Hideki Matsuyama. His 65 earned him a tie for third with Gary Woodland, who closed with 66.
But the big news of the tournament was the withdrawal by world’s No. 1 Brooks Koepka. Koepka flew home on Saturday after shooting 75 in the second round. Koepka says he aggravated his knee injury, leaving his immediate future in total doubt. He was slated to play in this week’s Zozo Championship in Japan but now Tiger Woods will have the spotlight all to himself.
