Last week a second-round even par 70 proved a big setback for J.T. Poston at The Travelers.
On Friday at the John Deere Classic, Poston kept his foot on the gas pedal and followed up his opening 62 with a six-under par 65 that got him to 15-under par, four shots clear of Denny McCarthy.
McCarthy was alone at 11-under after adding a 65 to his opening 66.
Big news out of TPC Deere Run was Chris Gotterup’s run up the leader-board. He’s in a group of four players sitting at 10-under par after adding 67 to his first round 65. The 22-year-old Gotterup was the Haskins and Nicklaus award winner this past season as college Player Of The Year. He’s turned professional and after missing the cut at the Canadian Open, he tied for 43rd at the U.S. Open then finished tied for 35th at The Travelers.
The 36-hole cut came at three-under par.
Defending champion Lucas Glover (two-under) went home early as did one of the pre-tournament favorites, Webb Simpson (one-under).
