When Jason Day is clicking on all cylinders, he’s basically too good for the rest of the PGA Tour.
He proved that at the PGA Championship last year and he’s looking like “that guy” again at the Players Championship.
Day went out Saturday morning and birdied the first hole of the day, the 15th, as he wrapped up his second round.
Three pars later, he was in at 66, a great follow-up to his opening 63 and he’s 15-under par, a new halfway record for this championship.
He broke the record set by another famous Aussie — Greg Norman. Norman was 14-under through 36 when he went on to win in 1994.
Another first for Day, he has played 36 holes without a bogey. It’s 15 birdies and 21 pars.
“Nice to get that 36 hole scoring record but there are 36 more to play,” Day said after finishing up his second round.
Day will go into the third round with a four-shot lead over Shane Lowry.
