On Friday, it looks like Jason Day might not make it the rest of the way at the U.S. Open. He lay on the ninth green at Chambers Bay, knocked down by a wave of vertigo.
Day was helped from the course with an uncertain outlook.
He showed up Saturday to play and showed up in a big way. Day, showing uneasiness throughout his round, fought off the condition and shot a two-under par 68 that jumped him into a tie for the lead with the leaders having three holes to go.
Day birdied three of his last four holes to get to four-under and he will be a factor on Sunday.
“If anybody gets a courage medal out there today, it should be him,” said Greg Norman, lead analyst for Fox Sports.
Day was unable to speak after his round but playing partner Kevin Kisner complimented him. “Man, he played great,” Kisner said. And Kisner warned: “You know what they say, be scared of a sick golfer.”
Day’s round of 68 was second low to Louie Oosthuizen’s 66.
