The No. 1 back in the world went out of sorts last fall starting at the BMW Championship.
It was there that Jason Day injured that famous back of his, suffering a tear of the annulus ligament in his back.
Day tried to rest a week then tee it up in the season-ending Tour Championship but that went badly when he was forced to withdraw from the lucrative event on the eighth hole of the second round.
His season was done after three wins and a shade over $8 million in official money.
Day hasn’t been seen or heard from since, missing his winter trip to Australia to play in his homeland’s top events.
The PGA Tour begins the 2017 season next week in Hawaii with the Tournament of Champions and Day is scheduled to play. His early season schedule also has him at Torrey Pines on Jan. 26 for the Farmers Insurance Open then at Pebble Beach Feb. 9 for the AT&T.
Day, who has had a long history of health problems, found himself facing a tight schedule late in 2016 and did not have enough time in between events to go through his normal preventative workouts for his back.
Of all the winners on display next week, look for Day to garner the most attention.
