Would you wear Nike gear for $10 million a year?
Apparently Jason Day will.
The reports are that the world’s No. 1 will join a certain former No. 1 and wear Nike apparel and shoes starting next season.
Day’s contract with Adidas runs out at the end of the year and the company is trying to unload TaylorMade on the equipment side.
Day may still be playing the TaylorMade clubs that are currently in his bag when the new season starts unless someone else throws some serious cash at him.
Such is the New World Order of golf.
Nike has said farewell to the equipment business and do what it does best — make clothes and shoes cheap overseas and sell them for high prices to the rest of the world.
No one ever said retail is fair.
Tiger Woods, like Day, will keep wearing the Swoosh on his clothes and hats and will wear the shoes but El Tigre is shopping equipment which means he’s shopping equipment offers. He doesn’t care what it is, it’s a matter of who’s willing to pay up.
Just ask Stiney.
